“So how have you guys been doing with the dances?”
My mother asked me through the phone. She was still at work and I always hated how she worked almost all the time. I mean, I rarely got to see her at times and that majorly sucked. I’m sure if I had a father, things would be more interesting around here and I’d actually have someone to talk with. But they didn’t even talk to each other now and I practically didn’t exist to him. And that was alright, because it went the same both ways.
I just wondered if my mother would ever date again. Sure, when I met that Bradley guy I got all freaked out, but anyone could get love no matter how old they were.
And she wasn’t that old.
Plus, let’s admit, Bradley was a really terrible guy, and that D word Evelyn told me she called him (that I won’t use because I’m still too much of a wimp).
“Great, mom,” I responded while chewing on some apple pieces I had just cut. “She’s been doing just great.”
And she was. Evelyn was getting better at dancing the more I showed her. She was a pretty quick study, even with the small steps she took toward the direction of my foot. But with that aside, she was pretty good and I couldn’t wait to show her the other moves I had.
“That’s good to hear, sweetie. Where is she right now?”
“Um…”
I stood up from the couch and looked outside to notice Evelyn’s motorcycle gone. Typical. Where could she have gone now? I swear, this girl went around town so much I’m sure she actually knew it better than I do already.
“Not sure. But I think she’s just strolling around or hanging out with some friends.”
“Hmm… alright, then. Can you tell her to give me a quick call when she gets back? I have to go take care of a patient. So I’ll see you guys later. Take care.”
“Alright, Mom. Bye! Take care.”
As I hung up, I got a call almost right away. And since it was Evelyn, I picked it up and immediately asked where she was, so that my mother wouldn’t be so worried while working. I hated stressing her out, and the patients she got were sometimes pretty bad and/or crazy. So it didn’t really help.
“Yo, dude!”
I frowned and put my phone away from my ear when I heard a guy screaming on the other line. Was the right person calling me?
“Hey, Evelyn, fire it up!”
“You got it!”
My eyes went wide at hearing Evelyn’s voice yell. She didn’t sound like herself. She sounded high or something.
Seriously, again!? I mean, I know this was her way of having fun and whatnot, but I couldn’t have her doing this. I needed to go find her right now! Before anything bad happened. Oh, the irony. She’s bad, so why do I ever expect something good to come out of her?
“Where the hell is she,” I demanded with a hard tone to my voice.
